New Kickstarter Project: “Congratulations! You Have Overthrown the Government of the United States of America”

It’s day one. Sporadic fighting continues. The Capitol is ablaze. Pumped with adrenaline and thrilled that the day of victory has arrived, revolutionaries storm into the centers of power of the former United States of America.

What will they find? What should they do?

This question looms large in the minds of everyone who tries to imagine a different political and economic system than the one we live under now. Few of us can think of anything new, much less better, much less how it would/will look like.

I am asking your support to help fund the research and writing of a follow-up to The Anti-American Manifesto with the title “Congratulations! You Have Just Overthrown the Government of the United States of America.” The idea is to walk through the early days, weeks and months of a theoretical American revolution: What should be done to make sure that what comes next is better, not worse?

If I get support, I will rely on historical precedents as well as the experience of actual leaders in parts of the world that recently came into the control of revolutionary movements to set up a sort of Revolution for Dummies book.

Please go to Kickstarter for the details and to watch a video.

  • What’s your legal budget? You do realize you’re going to have to go to court to get this published right? (Not that it’s right that you’re going to have to do that, I’d just wager money that’s whats going to happen).

IMO, you’d be better off writing a fictional story about a second American revolution. You’re much less likely to get majorly hassled that way.

  • As a severely paranoid web user, could I request that you post using HTML5 instead of Shockwave-Flash? My Software-for-the-severely-paranoid says I can be tracked if I view anything in Shockwave-Flash, but not if I only view HTML5 videos, so it blocks all Shockwave-Flash videos to keep me ‘safer’ (it says nothing can keep anyone completely safe, but I’m not willing to give up Internet entirely, only Shockwave).

  • @Whimsical: I’m not going to advise revolutionaries how to overthrow the government. This book assumes that that has already happened, and picks things up from there.

  • @Michael: I’m afraid this is the only format that Kickstarter lets one use.

  • @Ted

Then I’d revise the description on your Kickstarter page, because that sure as shooting reads like you’re planning on putting out a detailed guide.

  • Awwww that was disappointing…. I mean I guess this is a good cause too, but when I read the title of this kickstarter project I thought it was for raising revenue to buy mercenaries and train rebels to overthrow the government not fund the research for a book.
