Union of the Unemployed
Well, folks, it's happened. The unemployed now officially have a union. They have chapters across the country after only a month in existence.
Take note, President Obombya. Couldn't have happened without you.

The Tea Baggers are angry. The Aeorspace workers are angry. One of their demands is extended employment benefits. Another is more food stamps. Wait! Isn't that 'bigger' government? What we need to do is globalize all natural resources and take the windfall profits from the countries and their corporate powers and the arms manufacturers. Socialism? So be it. Profiteers have repeatedly shown that greed rules. Greed creates royalty. Bad deeds and bad words profit talented, but brain-dead motormouths and pundits. What people don't want is revolution. Revolution is change, and change means sacrifice. People don't want change. People would rather watch our civilization die, our Constitution degraded and made worthless, thank you, Dick 'the Prick' Cheney, may you spontaneously combust in your fucking hospital bed or disclosed location. It's too early in the ayem to rant, but rant comes easily. Arrrggghhhhhh!

"Obombya"...cute....you and Sarah Palin must be like sisters, Susan.
Someone must have had her Flinstones Vitamins that day!
Got any other 6th grade creations for us?
Thanks, Joseph. I'll go take a look at it.
I didn't invent the term "Obombya", Aggie. It's been in existence for several months now. A google search will show you how many others have used it.
So, Susan, you used a petty, adolescent term that you DIDN'T come up with. That doesn't make it better, but it does make it more funny.
Wow Dave, I thought you were only a jerk to conservatives. I was wrong.
Anon 12:25. I am not a jerk to conservatives. However I am thoroughly unsympathetic to people who mindlessly recite dogmatic views, depict media-fomented caricatures of "left" and "right" as though these two generic camps represent any individual. . .or even a sane worldview for that matter, or just relentlessly attack people for the sake of degrading discourse to the point everyone gives up, and then taunting people for somehow taking things "too seriously."
If you took the time to read peoples' posts, you'd find that there are a number of fairly conservative regulars on Ted's blog that I agree with more often than not.
Aggie, you're right. There's nothing funny about it. But the thing is, I wasn't trying to be funny. My commentary about the Union of the Unemployed is quite serious, and the fact that there are so many unemployed in this country that they have to form a union in order to be heard by Obama is really quite unfunny.
looks like a money/power grab by the IAM. Get organized so they can use your votes to get concessions in jobs bills
Well, Susan, that's all well and good, I'm merely pointing out that the seriousness of the topic gets diminished greatly when you reduce it to sophomoric name calling. This is something you consistently do and I've pointed it out before.
When it's done repeatedly and self righteously, I get the sense that you're not interested in being taken seriously, and that diminishes the entire conversation.
Don't stoop to the level of these anonymous trolls and their personal attacks, because when you do, their goals are validated in dismissing very serious issues by turning everything into a game of "gotcha."
I truly believe you are smart enough to recognize this, and that is the reason I don't have much sympathy for this behavior.
Susan,
Obama doesn't care. As dead fish Rahm once said, "Never waste a crisis". This is their chance to make more people dependent on the government.
Since you progressives hate "corporations", where are you expecting the jobs to come from?
Anon: 12:25 AM:
I'm not a jerk to conservatives, I'm a jerk to assholes who derive entertainment from abusing others. I am, however, thoroughly unsympathetic to willfully petty behavior of people who claim to know better.
Susan is being childish and I'm calling her out on it.

Instead you should call them f*cktards.
WTF does forming a Union for the unemployed accomplish? Seems more like a mob to me. Don't union's pay dues? If they don't pay dues how will they afford the pitchforks and torches for their meetings?
With all the unemployment/underemployment stats that we hear about it would great to have a face(s) for this union.
I am assuming that most of the people have some free time when not looking for work so why not do something constructive with that free time.
1) The 1 Million Pink Slip March! This also ties into the whole face thing I mentioned. Anytime I look at my local newspaper and there is an article about unemployment it typically has a picture of 2-4 people sitting in the Unemployment office filling in forms. We need a picture with power and that helps convey the magnitude of the issue our country is facing, and 1+ Million people in a tent city in DC would send a more appropriate message.
2) Sit-Ins’ at businesses that outsource their jobs.
3) Become a paparazzi.
You don't need to be in Hollywood to follow around someone with a camera and constantly take his or her picture. Government officials in your area have dirt just waiting to be dug up. Help clean up your government and keep them honest.
4) With the surplus of houses that are on the market and the new home industry suffering help with the supply and demand problem. Travel around and find houses with “4 Sale by Bank” signs. If no one is squatting inside then its time to begin! Start by removing and saving anything that can be recycled for money later. Once that is done you can finish off the house however you see fit. (Remember, fire spreads easily and you don’t want to endanger any of the people still living in the area.) One less house means less supply, which will help drive demand.
Since Banks don’t want to refinance houses like they said they would because they will lose money this system of eliminating excess housing would send them a clear message. Either work with people to keep them in their homes and lose a little money, or be prepared to sell a dirt lot and lose tons of money.
The empty lots will eventually need a new place to be built and that will help the developers create jobs.
Now that is a stimulus you can believe in.
Susan is being childish and I'm calling her out on it.
You should be more concerned with Obama ignoring the plight of unemployed millions in order to bomb Afghans half-way around the world than you are with my alleged childishness, Aggie. I think the former is more important, don't you?
President Obama is tossing unions under the bus. Just ask the AFT. He supports firing teachers with a valid contract.
Albert Shanker is rolling over in his grave.
Susan, they are both important. You claim to be serious, and yet your actions betray that claim. If you are going to raise a serious topic and then be petty about it, it diminishes your goal of bringing to light a serious issue.
This is my frustration with Michael Moore; he brings to light extremely salient topics, has a great point about them, and then throws in enough poor methodology and obvious partisan gabs -not to mention his overall personal behavior- to allow his detractors to dismiss him, and argue that everyone else should as well.
Thus the issue itself gets buried under a criticism of Michael Moore's personal and professional deficiencies....precisely the goal of his critics.
You're giving ammunition to those who would reject the importance of your claim, by acting childish.
Both issues are important. Yes, what the current SYSTEM AS A WHOLE is doing is an important issue. Our ability to discuss it in a mature manner is equally important, because if we can't be adults, we can't address serious issues.
I don't know Aggie. I'd rather debate Susan who doesn't come across as an arrogant ass hat. She doesn't have to tell everyone how intelligent she is. She doesn't feel the need to lash out if someone attempts to debate her. you on the other hand get your pink panties in a bundle when you get caught feeding us your self righteous bull shit. A little humility would go a long way. I'm sure Cathy would agree.
Anon, I think it's great for you and Susan to have a debate....go at it....Susan, Forthwith to the CNN Crossfire table.
Dude, you're an abusive little rodent, Ted lets you post because it serves his ego to use a Google product to perpetuate precisely what he denounces in his op-ed, but not because you have anything of merit to say, ever. Just go back down the rat hole you sprouted from and stop trying to pretend you're an adult.
So this is what you are left to Dave? I guess if I lived in a wooden weed infested home in Lansing I'd be bitter too.
I'm not bitter, Anon, I simply made the mistake of interacting with you one time. And like a hungry dog who gets fed by a passer-by, it follows them forever.
My mistake was interacting with you to begin with. Nobody else on this blog pays any attention to you, that's why you're stalking me and my family behind your anonymity, and Ted is an accomplice to your sociopathic obsession with me.

This guy is creepy. I think he's also the one who's obsessed with how much money I make, and the other scant personal details I've mentioned.
I'm glad he doesn't have access to my name or address.
