Send Me Back to Afghanistan: UPDATE

68 backers have put up $5,534 toward my attempt to return to the war in Afghanistan. I'm incredibly grateful and it's very cool of them. But I need $25,000 total.

At this point, I need some serious backers...every bit helps, but if you're sitting on top of serious coin and you enjoyed "To Afghanistan and Back," now is the time to pony up. If I don't get the full amount, Kickstarter sends me nada. I don't go. No book, no nothing, no dirt about what's really going on over there under U.S. occupation.

How much will it cost for a one way ticket?

Would it be more cost-effective to send just your head?

It's a crime to be paranoid and want to remain anonymous, no matter how friendly or contrary the comment. It's ok, though, to be a total fuckup and advertise the names, Sarah Palin or Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter, etc., and rake in millions of dollars while creating divisions even George W. Bush has to take a back seat to. Monied interests, like the 'people' the Supreme Court just created from corporations, can use their vast resources to hire keyboard thugs to monitor every left-leaning site in the world, under whatever name or identity they choose, and that makes it more palatable and mature and honorable. Tell us WHO you are or we won't take you seriously. It's still a voice, but the voices with names, legitimate or not, get respect. Right! Let 'us' know who you are so we can 'reach out' to you if your voice makes waves. It's honor and stupidity. Nixon had his enemies list. A famous mayor had his taxpayer-financed army of city worker-goons in case any citizen had the stupidity to speak out and give his name.
You have to wonder if some gun-toting, pro-life nut will look up your name and find you and vandalize your property or take his misplaced rage out on you or your family, because he's in the right and you had the civic stupidity to identify yourself. It's indeed sad when people who lived and worked and fought for their country have to worry that someone will reach out and 'touch' you. Everyone knows who you are anyway. They had just better not get caught 'reaching out' to quiet a legitimate voice that has just as much right to speak and be heard as the big money thugs.

I threw some of my pittance at you; my big tax $$$ has to stop my basement and roof from leaking.

This just gets more and more bizarre.
Sorry if you don't like retrospective comments, but I'm ploughing through the 'back numbers' of this site with the kind of fascination associated with going on a safari.
I'm from Britain, by the way, where loudmouthed idiots are commonplace, and had always naively thought of America as further behind us on that road. But Jesus!
Enough - I'm off to read some more. This is compelling and depressing simultaneously and I've a feeling I'll be here for hours.

I don't think the people who post on Ted's blog should in any way be considered representative of the general population.

And, also, keep in mind that all the anonymous right wing posts could be coming from just 2 or 3 trolls, or even progressive jokesters who want to give us easy targets to shoot down...
