Cartoon for February 24, 2010

After a blizzard hit Washington, right-wing morons argued that it proved that climate change was a hoax. Why don't they draw the opposite conclusion from a heat wave?

"Look, it's a 'black' man in the White House! Hope and change! We're SAVED!" - Yep, to be a Democrat. Sure, the GOP is the vanguard party of US Nazism (fascism + racism, sexism, homophobia, and religious nuttery)... all for the benefit of Wall Street, but the Democrats are the ever-helpful assistants, correcting GOP grammar and spelling, putting a little multiculti shine on fascism... but no difference at all. None. We need a revolution.

Personally, I find it difficult to respond to people who point to the recent snow as "proof" that global warming is a "hoax." Their arrogant idiocy is impenetrable.

But you've done a good job here...

Scientists have said that global warming would result in colder temperatures/more snow in some areas, so the deniers have even more egg on their faces.

While it's fun to point and giggle and say there's no warming, real consequences happen when nothing is done. Worse, some politicians and industry leaders want to stand in the way and millions could die as a result. I think it's time to throw some of these deniers/obstructers in jail, preferably one near the ocean.

The reason this is the case is because the right wing has a lock on 1) power, and 2) public discourse through domination of the media. When you are in charge, and have fundamental control of the playing field, all you need is a response. It doesn't have to make sense, it just has to distract from what anyone else wants to say, and take up space. So, one of your trolls can dismiss my entire argument by saying I'm an arrogant liberal, and that shuts down the entire discourse. Why does it work that way, Ted? Because the burden of proof is never on the status quo, all they have to ultimately say, in the end, is "so what?"

And at the end of the day, we all play a role in helping facilitate that end. We're screwed, Ted, big cities will become a bad place to be in the next 30 years. You need to move upstate and get yourself a herd of goats.

Ted your strip today reminds me of something else Republicans seem to do.

In their eyes if something "Good" happens then God has blessed us and loves us.
If something "Bad" happens then God works in mysterious ways and is part of his great plan.

Example:

Snow = Good (some how proves global warming is hoax)

Rising Sea levels = Bad (but not really because its all part of God's plan)

To the people Republican's claim to represent its a win/win arguement for them and as long as it pushes their agenda then who cares?

"God" really does work in strange ways.

Didn't the Bible say something about sea levels rising and killing a bunch of people? The boat had a drunk for a captain who was 500 years old?

I'm a little rusty on my fiction. I need to go get a hotel room so I can research this more.

The Dude doth quote himself. The evidence of Ted's roll is allowing this fucktard to continue to post his craplines on here.

I repeat again (from something a long time ago)...there's really a substantial difference between climate and weather....just like there's a substantial gab between surface temperatures and the presence of snow. In Michigan, Lake Effect Snow is the result of temperatures being WARMER, not COLDER.

Anon, continue being a fucktard....it's what you enjoy being apparently.

Just as the Bush team of splendid idiots chanted "Shock and Awe" and came in their pants multiple times as Iraq was bombed almost to nothing, the folks at Halliburton and other corrupt corporations are shouting "Melt! Melt! Melt! as the polar ice caps melt and permafrost turns to goo. Now there's more land to buy out from the natives and turn to huge corporate profits. If these cocksuckers thought they could get away with it, they'd hit the South Pole with thermite bombs so they could claim full mineral and oil and gas rights under the ground. Nothing's too low for the corporate sleaze balls. Melt! Melt! Melt!

re: "Big cities will become a bad place to be in the next 30 years."
Ha Ha. As I walked the streets of my former 'big city' several years ago, I wondered who was going to pay for all the new condos being built in the many, many tall buildings. I remembered when the warehouses used to house hundreds, maybe thousands, of small businesses. Now, all those warehouses had been converted to condos. Newer, taller construction were all condos. And, this is significant, every single unit had a balcony! A person doesn't have to be a great fiction writer to see those same balconies used as platforms for snipers. How many Weber Kettles can be tossed on the heads of insuspecting pedestrians and police vehicles, the perps long-hidden in their condos before the kettles strike paydirt? Now, add clotheslines strung across entire streets the way the old neighborhoods and ghettos in big cities dried their wet laundry. But much more violent, because certain Americans are scared to death that Obama will take away their guns, and they're stocking up like never before. Perhaps the 'bad places' in big cities will come much sooner than 30 years from now.

"I'm evil," Dick Cheney admits in official revised autobiography. "Everything George and I did in the White House, we did with malice. We wanted to destroy the Republican Party, and, if possible, initiate the Apocalypse. We failed miserably," says Cheney in the preface to his new book, A Wallop in the White House. "Won't somebody please take me duck hunting?"

Wait, trolling is fun!

Cities are an ancient and venerable invention. Suburbs exist solely at the whim of cheap energy resources. I'll stay in the city, thanks, where I can walk to the barter zone.

Climate Change may or may not be in our future. Energy collapse is most certainly in our future. The dangers of climate change, imagined or real, challenge us to do something about the very real and very ignored problem of energy collapse. I find it entirely unnecessary to believe in climate change in order to support its dire warnings. What do the deniers propose we do about declining cheap energy resources? Burn it until it's gone, declare war on whoever's left. That's all.

2/25/10 7:04 PM
Blogger Aggie Dude said...

Spacious Specious: The deniers also deny that there's a problem with energy. The deniers deny everything, that's what they do.

This isn't an issue where we can find common ground, these people deny the most basic scientific evidence, or hell, just their own intellects and eyes. They should not be part of any decision making process until they "get it". . .otherwise all they do is obstruct, just like the Republicans are doing with EVERYTHING right now. .

Dave I enjoy posting facts that refute your posts. Global warming/climate change is my favorite because you warmers don't even want to debate it. The science is settled. Well not anymore. Turns out all your high and mighty scientists were hiding and deleting the original data so it could not be analyzed by critics.

And someone who imports women he meets online should not cast stones.

...you warmers don't even want to debate it.

There is a wide consensus among climate scientists. Every major scientific body in the world has produced reports confirming global warming. All 15 of the warmest years on record have come in the two decades that have passed since 1989. It is undeniable that the Arctic and glacial ice is melting and that seawater is rapidly acidifying.

Etc. Etc. Etc.

There is no debate. It is observable.

You fucktards might as well whine because we won't debate the notion that the world is spherical.

How about we start using our own resources. We have oil off our coasts but we can't touch them because of the Luddites on the left. Fortunately for China they aren't burdened with such idiots. They are getting our oil.

Climategate U-turn as scientist at centre of row admits: There has been no global warming since 1995significance level. The positive trend is quite close to the significance level. Achieving statistical significance in scientific terms is much more likely for longer periods, and much less likely for shorter periods.

Another IPCC Error: Antarctic Sea Ice Increase Underestimated by 50%
Several errors have been recently uncovered in the 4th Assessment Report (AR4) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). These include problems with Himalayan glaciers, African agriculture, Amazon rainforests, Dutch geography, and attribution of damages from extreme weather events. More seem to turn up daily. Most of these errors stem from the IPCC’s reliance on non-peer reviewed sources.

Head of 'Climategate' research unit admits sending 'pretty awful emails' to hide data

They revealed scientists plotting how to avoid responding to Freedom of Information requests from climate change sceptics.
Some even appeared to show the researchers discussing how to manipulate raw data from tree rings about historical temperatures.
In one, Professor Jones talks about using a 'trick' to massage figures and 'hide the decline'.

Grouchy,
Here is some more "shoddy work", but the science is still settled right?

The "Climategate" scandal, which broke in November 2009, revealed what many skeptics had privately suspected. Prominent climate scientists at the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (CRU) had collaborated to keep data out of skeptics' hands, subverted the peer review process, and used questionable methods to construct the temperature record on which the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel Climate Change (IPCC) based its recommendations.
Now a new "Climategate" scandal is emerging, this time based on documents released by NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in response to several Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) suits filed by the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI). The newly released emails further demonstrate the politicized nature of climate science, revealing a number of questionable practices that cast doubt on the credibility of scientific data provided by NASA.

“Just look at what has been happening for the last three days,” Gore said. “The so-called skeptics haven’t noted it because it’s not snow. But the downpours and heavy winds are consistent with what the scientists have long warned about.”
