Book Tour Shoutout
Early reaction to "The Year of Loving Dangerously" has been so enthusiastic that I am considering doing a national tour. So--if you run a bookstore or a group that sponsors speakers, please get in touch. My email is chet@rall.com. If I get enough responses from venues, I'll definitely do this.
What I look for in a venue:
1. First and foremost, good promotion. Bookstores that have loyal customers and send out a monthly newsletter to them. Groups that advertise in the local alternative weekly.
2. Second, money. A group that can pay for me to come will get priority. Most such groups can make a profit, even after paying my honorarium, by charging at the door.
3. Finally, local presence. If my cartoons or columns appear in the local paper, it means more people will know who I am. That makes it more worthwhile for me to drive (I'll be doing this by car) there.
Hope to see you soon!

Given your criteria, it looks like I won't be seeing you in Pittsburgh. Mores the pity.
How much is the honorarium? I'll pass it along to the King.
Really? They do know me in Pittsburgh though, from the City Paper. I've also appeared in shows at the Warhol Museum a few times.
Honorarium depends on what they'd want me to do. Get in touch.
Pittsburgh City Paper hasn't run your strips for a couple of years now. CP also dropped Derf's strips and Red Meat. It seems they've become afraid of offending somebody. The long defunct Pulp used to run your columns. I suspect that many, like me, just starting coming to your website as local "alternative" media outlets either became too timid to run your work or ceased to exist.
All things considered, your best best would likely be an event at the Warhol. I'd take a trip up to the North Side for that.
