New Animated Editorial Cartoon: "Afghanistan—The Good War"

Obama keeps firing more drone missiles; we keep blowing up more hearts and minds. It's more than just a crusade. It's a video game!

Here's the latest from yours truly and David Essman:

Ted,

I hate to say it, but these things are becoming increasing worse.

This one's pretty limp.

The World War II sequence was beautiful.

The video game part though, you could have included more aerial vide games.

As usual; you forgot to include the song name in the credit.

3/5 for this one Ted.

You could have fleshed it out.

But I still respect your song choice selection.

Grouchy, I beg to differ. The game arcade ambiance, and the little Atari-like drone video game were hilarious.
Then again, it could that I only find them funny cause I was a teenager in the 80s...

That arcade scene had the ring of truth to it, I'm pretty sure I've read that the military has been aggressively pursuing the recruitment of gamers for drone pilots and other types of computerized warfare, and of course they're all NERDS.

I don't really get this argument that you have to be knee deep in dead bodies with falling artillery shells all around you to be a warrior.

I mean, you're making the same argument that has been around ever since the introduction of archery! Namely, that you need to strangle the enemy with your bare hands to be considered a proper fighter.

Say that predator drones make it too easy to kill, say that it makes it harder to humanize the enemy (the same argument used against bombers by the way), say that it is exceedingly destructive. But please stop this idea that they are somehow "lesser" people. Frankly it's demeaning and way off mark.

It's just ruining the entire argument.

The draft riots are going to be, well, a riot.

Our column has made the farthest advance! We have outrun the other Panzers! The eyes of Germany are on us! The Fuhrer himself will decorate me. We have done it Conrad! We have done it!
Cpl. Conrad: Then I was wrong. We have won the war.
Col. Martin Hessler: No.
Cpl. Conrad: You mean we have lost?
Col. Martin Hessler: No.
Cpl. Conrad: I don't understand. If we have not won, and we have not lost, than what is happening?
Col. Martin Hessler: The best thing possible is happening - the war will go on.
Cpl. Conrad: For how long?
Col. Martin Hessler: Indefinitely. On, and on, and on!
Cpl. Conrad: But it must come to an end.
Col. Martin Hessler: You're a fool Conrad. Those of us who understood knew in 1941 that we could never win.
Cpl. Conrad: You mean Colonel for three years we have been fighting without any hope of victory?
Col. Martin Hessler: There are many kinds of victory. For the German Army to survive, for us to remain in uniform - that is our victory. Conrad, the world is not going to get rid of us after all.
Cpl. Conrad: But, when do we go home?
Col. Martin Hessler: This is our home.
Cpl. Conrad: And my sons? When do I see them? What will become of them?
Col. Martin Hessler: They will become German soldiers, and you will be proud of them.

Hmmmmm....

I agree with anon@8/5/09 11:36 PM, war is a dirty and shameful business, whether you're doing it through remote control or crawling in trenches. The worst part about drone warfare is that you hardly get to ever see the mess that's left on the ground.
Not that the complacent MSM would have interest in showing it, especially now that their crown prince rules the waves.
