If you ever needed proof that incrementalism can't work, Obama's healthcare proposals weren't the victims of the vast right-wing attack machine, but rather of the Democrats' own prediliction for arguing against themselves. "If we ask for too much, they won't give it to us, so we'll ask for less. Wait, now they want us to compromise from our fall-back position. OK, we can do that." And so it goes, as the Republicans smell the stink of weakness and exploit it for all its worth. And who can blame them, except the families of the dead?

Again you nail the metaphor, Ted! Obama is totally reminding me of that old Japanese kiddie TV monster show, called "Spectreman". The giant robot hero was supposedly solar-powered, but his "Low Power" warning light would always flash red after about 20 seconds of battle. Each time, the narrator would dolefully explain that the energy Spectreman derives from our sun diminishes rapidly inside the protective layers of our atmosphere... so...
Bing! Bing! Bing! "The energy Obamaman derives from our electoral mandate diminishes rapidly under the influence of high-powered lobbyists..."

I was right about George W. Bush as soon as he was announced as a legitimate candidate in the campaign for President. I am right about our country now. We are doomed. It's only a matter of time. We have a President (and beyond-stupid aides) who think having a beer (with shirt sleeves rolled up) on the White House Lawn will make a difference. Cambridge is NOT Englewood and the West Side of Chicago!
Here's a thought: if the military invokes "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," why doesn't our Congress have the same policy? After all, our lawmakers hold the welfare of our country in their able hands, right? Barney Frank just told an empty-headed BITCH what she could do with her Nazi words and pictures at a town hall meeting. Barney Frank is gay. No problem. Right? But shouldn't members of Congress, like our military establishment, be rooting out the homosexuals and lesbians, so that our country will remain 'pure?' We don't need perverts like Barney Frank telling brainless idiots that their yelling and screaming, hate-mongering and terror tactics are not welcome in genuine debate. We need to WEED OUT Barney Frank and his ilk so that spineless intellectuals like Barack Obama can pretend that having a beer on the White House Lawn will make a world of difference to the people who are screaming for some BALLS in government. The guys who butt-fucked Ned Beatty in 'Deliverance' are in charge of our halls of Congress. One of them is writing his memoir, while his adopted 'son' is retired in Texas, living the life of Riley on taxpayer money for destroying the USA. We are doomed!

Between 20,000 and 40,000 Americans die every year as a direct result of not having medical coverage. They are the ones who failed to pay the extortionist "insurance" companies, who bleed the public of hundreds of billions of dollars (that's $100,000,000,000+) every year.
In their market worship, many Americans refuse to accept the obvious fact that some things are made less efficient by profit motives. Remember: "profit" is not synonymous with "making money." Profit is the act of taking money out of an enterprise and giving it to stockholders.
When insurance is a for-profit business, it becomes indistinguishable from extortion. When health care is for-profit, it becomes a conspiracy to commit negligent homicide. (Of course, if you plan to do it, it's not negligent, it's just murder.)

I keep hearing this "20,000/year" or "60/day" die from no healthcare. Yet I never hear anyone site a source. Where does this number come from?
My wife is a nurse, every hospital she ever worked at always treated uninsured people. Perhaps if we started billing the countries whos illegal aliens we treat, we'd break even on some of these people.
