I'm not sure that this cartoon will work, but whatever. Sometimes, like John Wayne, a cartoonist has to do what a cartoonist has to do. It's a cross between two notions: Marshall McLuhan's observation about cartoons and the Times editor's remark.

Maybe she was referring to "Maus."
And this is one of the reasons why the Times has a declining readership.

I hate to burst your bubble, but her quote was in reference to the critics, NOT the cartoonists.
To wit:

You missed the point again.
No I didn't.
The "critics" you refer to are political cartoonists.
But Ted your cartoons are angry and outraged. Your artwork isn't pretty and your colors and humor are vivid and sharp. Does this mean you'll never be a successful cartoonist? Oh wait by the NYT standards you aren't successful as they don't carry your strip. Of course by my standards that makes them the failure.
Do your in-laws ever ask when you are going to get a real job?
